NORFOLK – Communities including Norfolk, Madison, Pierce, and others across the area and country are gearing up for tonight’s National Night Out.
The 32nd annual event, which be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Norfolk’s Central Park, will have several law enforcement agencies on hand to provide activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Various games with prizes and free food and beverages will also highlight tonight’s event.
The National Night Out event involves over 16,000 communities from all 50 states nationwide. The goal is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhoods, and generate support for and participate in anti crime efforts. The Nebraska State Patrol, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Norfolk Police Division, and Norfolk Fire Division will also have various safety demonstrations. Nearly 40 different organizations will be represented at the National Night Out in Norfolk.
Due to possible rainy conditions, the National Night Out in Madison will now be held at the City Auditorium from 6-7:30 p.m. Bounce houses, face painting, food and games, and other fun activities will highlight the program. 15-20 different vendors will be in attendance including Target and Pinnacle Bank, who will offer up root beer floats.
National Night Out in Pierce will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in the green space area from 6-8 p.m. Sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Pierce, there will be a controlled burn demonstration by the Pierce Fire Department in addition to games, food, and various vendors on hand including Mosaic and local businesses.
