WAYNE – The Wayne Elementary School recently installed a new sound system in the gym.

Wayne Elementary Boosters (WEB) donated $6,500 to cover half of the cost for the new system. Under that expense included wireless microphones, speakers, an amplifier and other audio equipment.

The sound system will be used for elementary school assemblies, PE class, concerts, athletic events and was installed in late August.

This was WEB’s largest donation in at least 10 years, made possible by generous support from the community of Wayne according to WEB President, Sandy Brown.

“In fact I was just doing the numbers and this school year, so far, we will have donated $15,000 to Wayne Elementary,” said Brown. “To help impact learning, students, experiences and teachers.”

The remaining half of the cost for the new sound system was covered by Wayne Community Schools.

Coming up is the 4th Annual Fun Run, scheduled for Friday, September 22 around Kern Track at Wayne Jr/Sr High School. This is WEB’s largest fundraiser of the year and their goal is to raise $6,000.

Brown added Wayne State College is a huge help.

“They have helped us every year by paying for half of the reusable water bottles that we give to every student at the event,” Brown added. “They also support us with volunteers, so there’s student athletes who come out to the track.”

Along with Brown, WEB volunteers took a photo in front of the new sound system controls with Elementary Principal Russ Plager during Parent’s Night on August 28. WEB volunteers included Kari Cliff, Katie Wynia, Brandy Saltzman, Kristine Brummond and Liesel Powicki.
