No Charges For Man Involved in Fatal Wahoo Accident

WAHOO – An Omaha man will not be charged in connection with the death of an 11-year-old Wahoo boy who was hit by a pickup truck.

Mason Triplett, a fifth-grader at Wahoo Elementary, was struck by a pickup driven by Sean Buffum, 27, of Omaha, on Feb. 1. The boy was taken to Saunders County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Saunders County Attorney Steve Twohig, in a statement issued Wednesday, said a detailed reconstruction of the accident was performed by the Nebraska State Patrol. They concluded that no alcohol or texting was involved in the accident.

Investigators determined the boy was crossing Chestnut Street near 23rd Street about 3:45 p.m. Feb. 1 when he was struck by Buffum’s northbound pickup. Wahoo police said the intersection has no traffic signal, but it does have stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on 23rd Street.

According to police, Buffum immediately stopped and called 911.
