Norfolk Man Arraigned After Running Over Man

STANTON – A Norfolk man was arraigned in Stanton County Court Tuesday morning after he ran over someone.

20-year old Evan Cook is facing a felony charge after an accident at a rural Stanton County party last month.

Cook appeared with his lawyer Ron Temple in front of Judge Michael Long where he requested a preliminary hearing.

Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger says Cook was behind the wheel of a pickup at a house party when he accidentally backed over 20-year old Blake Mayer.

Sheriff Unger says alcohol is considered a factor in the accident, which wasn’t reported for several hours after the fact. Mayer was taken to an Omaha hospital for treatment of internal injuries.

Cook faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident as well as minor in possession of alcohol.

He will appear back in court for his preliminary hearing December 22 at 11:00 a.m.
