Norfolk Man Gets Jail Time For Threatening Woman With Hot Oil

MADISON – A Norfolk man is headed to jail after authorities say he threatened a woman with hot oil and tried to assault her.

Forty-six year old Shwe Myay was sentenced to 18 months in Madison County Jail on Wednesday. He was convicted of three counts of misdemeanor assault as part of what Madison County Attorney Joe smith called a “good plea agreement.”

Myay was originally charged with terroristic threats after his arrest in Madison in November. Police said at the time that they were dispatched to a home after an 11-year old called 911, saying that their father was threatening their mother, and tried to throw hot oil at her.

Authorities say Myay tried to attack the woman, but was fended off by the children in the home.

Judge Mark Johnson cited Myay’s previous assault convictions, saying that another appearance in court in the future would mean a much harsher sentence.

Myay was given credit for 185 days served in jail.
