Norfolk Police Apprehend Shoplifter After Early Morning Pursuit

Norfolk Police had some early morning excitement Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by the department, Norfolk Police were dispatched at approximately 1:15 A.M. due to shoplifting at Wal-Mart.

The suspects loaded a cart full of items into their vehicle and fled the area. Officers were able to locate the vehicle, but were forced to take additional measures  after the driver refused to stop.

Madison County Deputies aided in stopping the vehicle by using, “stop sticks”.

The driver fled the scene, but officers were able to apprehend the passenger after being given a false name. The passenger was later identified as 42 year-old Thomas E. Scodris, who is homeless in Norfolk.

Scodris was in possession of the stolen material upon arrest and was also found to have a pipe with methamphetamine residue on it.

Scodris was booked in Norfolk County Jail for possession of Methamphetamine, criminal impersonation and theft. He also had an active warrant from Lancaster county for escaping a correctional facility

He was later transported to the Madison County Jail.
