NORFOLK, NE — The expansion project of the Norfolk Library is officially underway.
Thursday afternoon community members gathered outside of the library for a groundbreaking ceremony.
The breaking ground brings the beginning of the construction phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in spring of 2018.
Norfolk Mayor Josh Moenning says the idea of an expansion projected was well received when residents of Norfolk voted to invest tax dollars into the project.
On April 1 of 2015, an extra half-cent tax was added to purchase in Norfolk to fund the project.
Library Director Jessica Chamberlain says the expansion will provide the community with a quality facility.
The addition will be nearly 16,000 square feet and plans to have a gathering space, study rooms and better staff workrooms for the library staff.
