Plattsmouth Driver Trapped With Load Of Sodium Hydroxide

PLATTSMOUTH — Traffic was backed up in Cass County Wednesday after a freight truck and tanker full of a corrosive soap additive rolled into a field south of the intersection of Highway 63 and Mill Road.

Sheriff William Brueggemann said the tanker was transporting sodium hydroxide, but there was no spill.
The driver, 40 year old Kenneth Hinton of Plattsmouth was trapped in the cab of the semi and upon extrication was transported to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln to be treated for non life threatening injuries.

Agencies responding to the accident include Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Cass County Emergency Management, Ashland Fire and Rescue, Greenwood Fire and Rescue, Offutt Hazmat Team, and the State Fire Marshalls Office.
