Preschool Enrollment Underway, as Beatrice Public Schools Considers Location Decision

BEATRICE –  Beatrice Community Preschool Registration is underway for this coming year and Monday night, the Beatrice Board of Education could make a big decision on its’ location.

School officials have discussed making Cedar Elementary School the location of the preschool, while continuing to use Paddock Lane, Lincoln and Stoddard Elementary buildings for K-through-5 education.

Curriculum Director Jackie Nielsen says enrollment this year for three and four-year-old children was just over 200 students.

Four-year-old enrollment in the community preschool is a factor in calculating how much state aid, District 15 receives.   The district is also required to save some of its enrollment availability for special education students.

BPS is now enrolling preschool students for the 2017-2018 year, for children who are at least three years old and do not reach age five, before July 31st.

Nielsen says preschool is a way of supporting skills and making sure students will be ready for kindergarten through 12th grade education.   The Beatrice Board of Education’s monthly meeting is at seven p.m., Monday at the school administration building boardroom.
