FREMONT – First State Bank & Trust Company will celebrate and say goodbye to longtime employee Ron Weakland who is retiring.
Weaklend has been with the bank for 35 years. He started in 1982 and has held numerous positions during his tenure. Last year he was named to the Board of Directors, and he has also served as a board member of Banker’s Title Insurance of Nebraska.
Vice-President of Marketing Cindy Slykhuis says Weaklend has been a leader and a mentor to many in the financial services industry.
“Ron has had many different roles throughout the bank. He’s really grown in his career. He started out as a lender and has been on our executive team for a number of years,” said Slykhuis. “He has really been not only a leader at our bank, but a leader in the financial services profession of all. He has been someone who has taught many bankers.”
Weaklend has also been an instructor for the American Institute of Banking. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and completed the Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado.
He’s a member of the Fremont Optimist Club. He has also served as chairman of the Greater Fremont Development Council, and board member and past chief volunteer officer of the Fremont Family YMCA. He and his wife Cindy have three sons and five grandchildren.
To celebrate Weaklend and wish him well, Slykhuis says they are holding a retirement coffee event on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.
“We are having a retirement coffee for Ron to celebrate his 35 years with First State Bank & Trust Company. We will be having a Chamber Coffee from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then a coffee for anybody and everybody from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said Slykhuis. “So if there’s anyone who wants to stop in and visit with Ron and wish him well, that would be a great time to come in and see him.”
The retirement coffee for Ronald Weaklend will begin at 9 a.m. at the bank’s main location, which is located at 1005 E. 23rd Street.
