Schuyler Man Charged with Manslaughter in Death of Schuyler Girl

SCHUYLER – A Schuyler man is heading for a first appearance in Colfax County for manslaughter, for the death of a Schuyler 15-year-old.

24-year-old Angel Lopez is being charged with felony manslaughter, as well as multiple DUI and reckless driving charges, after an incident on June 15th of 2016. Court records say Lopez was in his car near the Oak Ball Room, with two passengers, when a police officer arrived and began to approach the vehicle to warn them of the park curfew.

At this time, the affidavit states Lopez fled the scene, and eventually collided with a tree on west 6th Street .  As a result of the accident, 15-year-old Isabella Brandt, a passenger in the vehicle, died from injuries she had suffered.

Lopez is scheduled to make a first appearance in Colfax County Court at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
