Update on Drowning at Victory Lake

FREMONT – Dodge County Sheriff Deputies were called to a possible drowning at Victory Lake in the Fremont State Lakes Recreation Area.

According to Sheriff Steven Hespen, deputies received the call at 8:44 p.m. on Sunday. On arrival, the deputies were informed that 45-year-old Eugenijus Balsys of Omaha was driving his jet ski without a life jacket. Balsys was eastbound on Victory Lake, approximately one-tenth mile west of the boat ramp area, when he fell from the jet ski.

Balsys attempted to swim to the jet ski, but did not make it. Witnesses attempted to swim out and assist him, but were unable to reach him in time.

Members of the Fremont/Dodge County Dive Rescue Team conducted a search of the lake and found Balsys at approximately 9:20 p.m. about 50-feet from the south shore of Victory Lake. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
