USDA Grant to Help Gage County Communities Envision Future

BEATRICE – The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing a grant to help rural communities in Gage County, set priorities for facility improvements.

Executive Director of Gage Area Growth Enterprise, Walker Zulkoski announced today that the grant has been awarded.

He says NGage will work with the University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension and the Heartland Center for Leadership to guide priority-setting sessions with 13 small communities in Gage County.

Residents of each community will be invited to attend a series of local and regional meetings to talk about accomplishments and set goals for community and economic development.

The USDA grant was awarded to the Heartland Center for Leadership Development, a nonprofit group that is 30 years old and has worked with community leaders throughout the Great Plains.

Co-Director of the Center, Milan Wall says a unique feature of the effort will be involving students from schools in the region to help envision community development, over the next ten years.

Initial meetings will begin, next month.
