WAYNE – Arnie’s Ford, located at 119 E 3rd Street in Wayne, will be the host site for this week’s Friday morning Chamber Coffee. The organization hosting the event is The Wayne Area Legacy Fund.
Join the Wayne Area Legacy Fund as they open their campaign at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 9.
Bill Dickey is the Chairman of the Wayne Legacy Fund. He said it was started recently in the fall of 2016.
“We’ve been trying to put a program together for the community that gives opportunity to be able to have people give,” said Dickey. “That the community would be able to have some money so it would be able to be used for special projects.”
Wayne Area Economic Development Executive Director Wes Blecke, City Administrator Lowell Johnson and the City Council contacted Dickey. Wayne is a part of the Nebraska Community Foundation, an affiliated fund for the Community Foundation, which started in 1993.
“We were a little behind in getting on board with this,” Dickey added. “But in 2000, Wayne Community Foundation was formed to be able to raise money for the Community Activity Center.”
Over 250 communities and 80 counties are a part of the Nebraska Community Foundation.
There will also be a special presentation from Arnies Ford Mercury and the Reeg family for the Wayne Legacy Fund on Friday.
The timing is right to get the Wayne Area Legacy Fund back on board. According to the Nebraska Community Foundation, just for Wayne County alone there will be over $200 million dollars passed from one generation to the next over the next 10 years, according to Dickey.
“We’re thinking that if we can only get say 1% of that, that would be $2 million dollars into that fund,” Dickey mentioned. “Which would give us about $100,000 each year to give back to the community.”
