WAYNE – After picking up a three-set win over St. Cloud State on Friday, a team they were swept by earlier in the season, #22 Wayne State College played host to #6 Minnesota Duluth.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, the Bulldogs also swept the ‘Cats in the month of September.
This time around the Wildcats would stand tall and split four sets to force the fifth. UMD edged the ‘Cats in five-sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12). The Bulldogs earned the #4 seed with the win and are now 23-5 (16-4 NSIC) while the ‘Cats secure the eighth seed with a 19-11 (12-8 NSIC) record.
Redshirt freshman Jaci Brahmer had herself a night with 20 kills followed by senior Erin Gross adding another 10. Junior Megan Gebhardt recorded 44 set assists as sophomore Haley Kauth led the ‘Cats in the dig department with 16. Fellow sophomore Katie Stephens tacked on 10 digs.
UND edged WSC, .274 to .198 as the ‘Cats won the service ace battle (7-2).
The 2017 NSIC Volleyball Tournament will open Wednesday, November 15. #8 Wayne State will travel to #1 Concordia St. Paul for a 6 p.m. first set. Other opening round contests will feature #7 Upper Iowa at #2 Southwest Minnesota State; #6 Augustana University at #3 Northern State and #5 Winona State at #4 Minnesota Duluth.
