#5/#8 Wayne High Uses Running Clock To Dominate David City

DAVID CITY – Undefeated Wayne High traveled to winless David City Friday night for their final non-district game of the season.

WHS used four rushing touchdowns in the opening quarter while holding the Scouts to three punts.

Junior running back Juan Vergara accounted for a pair of rushing touchdowns (two/21-yards). Senior wideout Mason Lee scored on the opening rushing touchdown on a jet sweep from 36-yards out while senior fullback Brennan O’Reilly added a seven-yard rushing touchdown.

The Blue Devils held a 26-0 lead after one quarter of play.

Wayne scored a pair of touchdowns through the air as David City was held to two more punts in the second.

Senior quarterback Beau Bowers hooked up with senior wideout Ryan Jaixen twice. Once from 24-yards and another late in the second quarter from five-yards.

At the half WHS started the running clock, with a 40-0 lead.

David City didn’t let up as they opened the third quarter with a touchdown drive. Junior quarterback Will Danielson connected with sophomore wideout Josh Seibert from 28-yards out.

On the following possession, Wayne High marched down the field and scored from five-yards out when sophomore Blake Bartos walked into the endzone.

Final found #5/#8 Wayne High picking up a 47-7 road win to improve to 4-0 on the season while David City fell back to 0-4.

Individually for Wayne High, Bowers went 10-10 for 173 yards and two scores while Jaixen led the receiving core with five grabs for 78 yards and two touchdowns. It was Juan Vergara back on the ground attack with five carries for 59 yards and two scores while Bartos carried the ball 10 times in the second half for 50 yards and one score.

Wayne High will next host Madison while David City visits Wahoo on Friday, September 22.
