LINCOLN – As half of the teams in the 2017 NSAA State Volleyball Championships were eliminated Thursday, it’s onto the final four Friday.
A key Class C2 matchup will feature two teams in northeast Nebraska.
Following a first-round victory for #1 Hartington Cedar Catholic over #8 Southern Valley (25-16, 25-12, 25-14), HCC improves to 33-0 on the season.
Jada Cattau posted a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs to pace Cedar Catholic at the net. Maddie Wieseler also followed with a double-double recording 11 kills and 19 set assists. Ashley Hamilton added 17 set assists as Madie Arens tacked on a team-high 20 digs.
The semi-final round opponent will feature #4 Stanton. The Mustangs took care of business over #5 Archbishop Bergan in four sets (21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22) to now sit 30-3 overall.
One of Stanton’s three losses came in the Stanton Tournament on September 16 to Hartington Cedar Catholic, 2-1.
HCC will battle Stanton at 1 p.m. from the Pinnacle Bank Arena North Court followed by #2 Nebraska Christian vs. #6 Superior at 3 p.m. The Class C2 State Title game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday.
NE Christian swept #7 Ponca (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) while Superior upset #3 Centura in four sets (25-27, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23).
