Back-To-Back Two-Run Innings Propel Battle Creek Seniors Past Wayne Post 43

BATTLE CREEK – After going 1-2 in the 2017 Max Greve Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend, it was back to the metal bats for a Seniors only contest Monday evening.

The Wayne Post 43 Senior American Legion baseball team visited Battle Creek.

Following three scoreless innings, Wayne produced a run in the top of the fourth. Battle Creek followed with a pair of runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings before Wayne tacked on one more run in the seventh. Final score found Battle Creek holding off Wayne, 4-2, who falls to 7-4.

Ben Klein accounted for the only extra base-hit for Wayne Post 43 with a double. Caden Korth singled and drove in a run while Tucker Nichols and Payten Gamble each singled. Justin Dean added a RBI.

Adam Bentjen suffered the complete game loss in six innings allowing four earned runs off of eight hits while striking out five batters and walking two.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors will join their Junior Legion program for a double header at Laurel on Wednesday, June 14. Juniors contest will open at 5:45 p.m. with Seniors to follow at 8 p.m.
