Both Winnebago and Columbus Scotus met recently during the District Championship game to get into state, again the teams were back in action Saturday.
From Lincoln East High School #1 Winnebago battled with #3 Columbus Scotus in the C1 Consolation round.
Bago won over the Shamrocks 65-50 to earn the top seed previously.
Both teams stayed steady throughout the game. After one quarter of play, tied 18-18 and again at half after both teams poured in 16 points. Winnebago and Columbus Scotus were locked up at 34-34 at half. Winnebago pulled ahead in the third quarter, 11-10 as the Shamrocks countered with a 19-18 fourth.
Columbus Scotus’ senior Evan Chohon tied the game at the end of regulation, 63-63. In OT both teams again battled for the right to finish third place. It came down to a three-point shot at the buzzer by senior Cedrick Blackdeer to win the game 71-68 in OT for Bago. The Indians finish third in C1 and end the year at 28-3 while Scotus falls to 24-4.
Winnebago was led in scoring by senior David Wingett with 27 points. He went 13-13 from the foul line as Blackdeer followed with 14 points and junior D’Von LaPointe added another 13. LaPointe went 9-10 from the line and as a team the Indians were 25-29 at the charity stripe.
For Columbus Scotus, it was junior Trevor Kaslon finishing with 17 points. Also in double figure scoring found senior Cody Mroczek with 13 points and another 11 by senior Dalton Taylor.
Scotus finished 8-16 from the foul line.
