WAYNE – The final home game of the basketball season was held at Wayne High School Monday evening when WHS played host to Crofton.
A pair of Mid State Conference boys teams battled on the court as Wayne only led 10-8 after the first quarter. Wayne then took advantage of a 16-9 second to lead 26-17 at the break. But, Crofton mounted a comeback in the third (15-10) and fourth (19-17) to just fall short 53-51. With the win for Wayne, WHS snapped a two-game losing streak to now sit 16-7 on the year while Crofton has lost three straight and are now 9-11 overall.
Wayne was led in scoring by junior Jack Evetovich with 18 points while senior Payten Gamble scored all of his 15 points in the second half.
It was the final home games for seniors Tyler Pecena, Grayson McBride, Will Anderson, Ty Grone, Payten Gamble and Seth Hochstein.
Crofton’s leader was senior Dylan Potts accounting for 22 of the team’s points. Fellow senior Grant Wragge tacked on 15 points.
