O’NEILL – High School cross country teams visited the O’Neill Golf Course Thursday for a Class C2 District Invite.
In the girls division Boone Central/Newman Grove won the team title with 39 points, followed by Columbus Scotus in second with 51 points and Hartington/Newcastle was crowned third overall with 59 points. Wayne High placed fourth (61), just holding off Norfolk Catholic for fifth (62), O’Neill finished sixth (83), Columbus Lakeview (seventh – 111), West Point-Beemer (eighth – 150) and North Bend Central (ninth – 163).
Individually, Boone Central/Newman Grove had the first and second places from Samantha Weeder (20:17) and Jordan Stopak (20:20) while Andrea Torres of Wayne High finished third in a time of 20:53.
Gabi Meyer of Wayne High also qualified for state with a ninth-place finish (21:34).
From the boys division Norfolk Catholic was crowned district champions with 41 points, followed by Hartington-Newcastle in second with 50 points and Pierce placed third with 54 points.
Other final boys results came from Columbus Lakeview (fourth – 64), Columbus Scotus (fifth – 76), Boone Central/Newman Grove (sixth – 87), O’Neill (seventh – 111), Central City (eighth – 137), North Bend Central (ninth – 171), West Point-Beemer (10th – 176) and Wayne High (11th – 182).
Brian Santiago of Hartington-Newcastle crossed the finish line first in a time of 17:05 while Jonny Lindgren took second (17:21). Norfolk Catholic’s Rylan Rasmussen placed third (17:28) as Mason Sindelar of Pierce finished fourth (17:33).
NSAA State Cross Country Championships is scheduled for Friday, October 20 from the Kearney Country Club. Class C girls will run at Noon with the Class C boys running at 1 p.m.
