WAYNE – The Wayne Junior High seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams had their regular season come to a close Thursday evening at home.
Wayne played host to Norfolk Catholic from the elementary school.
During the seventh-grade contest, Norfolk Catholic won the opening quarter 16-0 before Wayne took a 22-16 lead at the break. The Knights then outscored the Blue Devils 15-5 in the third and 6-5 in the fourth to win 37-32. Wayne finished their regular season at 5-4.
Tanner Walling paced Wayne in scoring with 17 points, followed by James Dorcey pouring in eight and another three from Brandon Bartos. Toby Braun and Drew Sharpe each added two points.
During the eighth-grade contest, Wayne jumped out to an 18-6 first quarter lead but trailed by five at half. Wayne’s bench came to play and kept the lead intact and won 45-37. Wayne finished their regular season 7-3.
Kallan Herman led the Blue Devils in scoring with 22 points off of six three-point buckets. Nolan Hunke followed with 12 points, Jacob Kneifl added six and another five from Colton Vovos.
The Wayne seventh grade and eight grade boys will end their season hosting the Wayne Tournament on Saturday, February 11. Both teams will compete with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge from Wayne High School opening at 9 a.m. with the winner taking on the Hartington Cedar Catholic/Howells-Dodge winner.
