WAYNE – The Wayne High freshman boys basketball team competed at home after taking part in several road games since the middle of January.
WHS hosted Hartington Cedar Catholic Monday evening from the elementary school.
Both teams’ varsity squads were coming off a Mid State semi-final game which found HCC winning 77-74 in double overtime.
During the freshman contest, HCC led 14-11 after the first. Wayne then outscored Cedar Catholic (10-8) in the second to trail 22-21 at half but again won the third (10-7). Hartington Cedar Catholic took over the fourth and final quarter 13-9 to hold off Wayne 42-40. Wayne has now dropped three straight to sit 9-3 on the year.
Shea Sweetland led Wayne in scoring with 16 points followed by another 10 from Tyrus Eischeid. Trevor DeBoer (seven), Josh Lutt (five) and Noah Lutt (two) all scored as well.
The Wayne freshman boys have their final regular season tournament this weekend in South Sioux while also having their season come to a close on Friday. February 17 at Pierce tipping off at 4:45 p.m. The South Sioux City Tourney will be held on Saturday, February 11 starting at 10 a.m.
