Cedar Catholic Withstands Third Quarter Run; Beats Boone Central on the Road

ALBION – In a game of runs, it was an offensive explosion by Hartington Cedar Catholic late in the third quarter that proved to be the difference Friday.

After Boone Central/Newman Grove opened the second half on a 13-2 run that gave them a seven-point lead, Cedar Catholic responded, closing the third on an 8-2 run of their own and out-scoring the Cardinals 18-10 in the fourth quarter of a 52-45 win.

Matthew Becker keyed the Trojan comeback, scoring six of HCC’s eight points during that late quarter run. He finished with 16 points and eight rebounds overall.

The Cardinals were able to use their size advantage at times to dominate down low. Senior Jessie Sullivan finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds for BC/NG.

Cedar Catholic is 1-0 ahead of a match-up with Bloomfield on Tuesday. BC/NG will try to bounce back Saturday at Columbus Lakeview.
