Class C2-4 Sub-District Finals Are Set for Thursday

NORFOLK – After pulling out a tough 44-40 win against Wisner-Pilger on Monday, the #5 Battle Creek girls were back in action on Tuesday night at Norfolk Catholic High School to take on #1 Stanton.

Battle Creek hung tough with the #1 Mustangs but ran out of gas in the second half as Stanton beat Battle Creek 45-27 behind a monster night from senior Hannah Heppner who finished with (unofficially) 13 points to go along with 19 rebounds and 10 blocks in the game.

Cora Gillespie led the Bravettes in scoring as Battle Creek finishes their season at 9-16 and will lose three starters heading into next year: McKenna Mink, Kiana Bolling, and Cassie Weinandt.

#1 Stanton will face off against #2 Howells-Dodge on Thursday after the Jaguars held off #3 Lutheran High Northeast, 55-42.

The Eagles were hitting three pointers left and right on Tuesday but they gave up an 11-2 run to Howells-Dodge to end the first half as they trailed 24-18 and only trailed by 7 points heading to the 4th quarter.

LHNE couldn’t put together enough at the end to comeback and win after junior Matty Boning and senior Emma Rosberg fouled out in the 4th quarter. The Eagles were led by Kortni Kasik who finished with 13 points. Rosberg and Chloe Spence both figured in double-figures with 12 and 10 points in the loss.

The Eagles finish their 2017-2018 campaign with an 11-11 record.

Howells-Dodge improved to 12-11 with the win as the defending Class C2 state champs will take on Stanton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Catch all the action on 94.7 KNEN and stream the audio online at ncnsportsnow.com.
