CROFTON – The Crofton volleyball team’s struggles seemed to turn around in a set they didn’t even win.
After falling behind to Boone Central/Newman Grove in the first set 19-5, the Warriors rattled off separate runs of 7-0 and 8-0, but came up short 25-23.
But the momentum gained in the latter stages of the first set seemed to carry over for the rest of the match, as Crofton took the next three sets 25-18, 25-13, 25-11 to get a four set win.
It was Crofton’s first win since a season-opening victory over Wynot and was their first win in a best-of-five match this season.
Junior Hannah Van Heek led the Warriors offensively with 10 kills and 4 aces, but it was a balanced attack overall, with Madisen Kube and Danielle Steffen each adding nine kills.
BC/NG’s Nicole Woebbeke led all players with 11 kills, adding two blocks and three aces.
The Cardinals saw their personal losing streak against Crofton extend to seven matches. Boone Central hasn’t beaten the Warriors since 2012.
