LINCOLN – The Ponca Indians were back in State Tournament action for the first time since 2012 competing in the opening round.
#3 Ponca took on #6 Centennial at Lincoln Southeast High School Thursday evening.
Ponca started strong with a 15-4 first quarter lead while adding another 10-5 in the second. At half, Ponca was up 25-9 over the Broncos. Centennial started strong in the third quarter with a 13-8 run as Ponca outscored the Broncos in the fourth 17-15. Final found Ponca winning 50-37 to improve to 25-4 overall as Centennial was eliminated with a 22-4 record.
Junior Connor Day paced Ponca in the scoring column with 16 points while fellow junior Logan Kingsbury followed with 14 points. Kingsbury went 8-9 from the foul line.
Junior Heath Haberman led the Broncos in scoring with 15 points as sophomore Jackson Hirschfeld followed with 12 points.
