HASTINGS – Following a win over #2 Sports Express Friday night, the Dirt Devil 10 & Under softball team competed in the Class C ASA State Softball Tournament.
From the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings, the Dirt Devils entered the day 2-0.
Wayne opened Saturday with a northeast Nebraska foe in Pender. Pender scored two runs in each of the second and third innings. Pender added five more runs in the fourth before Wayne scored two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth. Final score found Pender defeating Wayne 9-3.
Delaney Kruse recorded a single and RBI while Mackenzie Nissen added another single.
Nissen suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing nine runs (one earned) off of three hits while striking out six batters and walking one.

Moving into the second contest, Wayne took on Dmilaco. Dmilaco led 5-3 after the first inning and outscored the Dirt Devils 3-1 in the second. Wayne gave up two more runs in the third and were eliminated from the state tourney with a 10-4 loss. The Dirt Devil 10’s are now 17-18 overall.
Kruse again paced the team with a single and double. Sammi Gubbels added a single and RBI.
Kruse suffered the loss in an inning and a third allowing eight runs (seven earned) off of six hits while striking out two batters and walking another five. Rylin Hall pitched a third of an inning allowing two runs off of one hit while striking out one batter.
