WAYNE – It was District Tournament time over the weekend for two of the Wayne Dirt Devil Softball age divisions.
The Dirt Devil 10 & Under softball team competed in West Point for the Class C District.
Wayne picked up a 15-8 win on Friday over North Bend before splitting Saturday games of a 9-4 loss to the Elkhorn Slammers and a 9-4 win over Fort Calhoun. The Wahoo Calvary ended the 10’s District run with a 10-3 loss to go 2-2 over the weekend and finished eighth to qualify for Class C State in Hastings on Friday, June 30 – Sunday, July 2. The 10’s are now 8-11 on the season
From Friday’s win Taytem Ellis recorded a pair of singles and two RBI’s while Jersi Jensen singled twice, added a double and drove in three runs. Kierah Haase doubled and tacked on two RBI’s while Rylin Hall singled and drove in two runs.
Delaney Kruse worked two innings in the circle allowing six runs (one earned) off of one hit while striking out four batters and walking five. Hall picked up the win in an inning allowing two earned runs while striking out one batter and walking another four.
During Saturday’s 9-4 loss to Elkhorn, Ellis accounted for the lone hit of the game. Kruse added a RBI scoring Mackenzie Nissen.
Hall pitched two innings allowing five runs (three earned) off of three hits while striking out and walking three batters each. Nissen suffered the loss in an inning and a third allowing four runs (one earned) off of two hits while striking out two batters.
In the 9-4 win over Fort Calhoun, Ellis recorded two triples, a double and three RBI’s. Kruse followed with a single, double and two RBI’s.
Nissen picked up the complete game, no-hitter, win in four innings allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out and walking six batters each.
Wrapping up the weekend with the 10-3 loss to Wahoo on Sunday, Ellis recorded another triple. Sammi Gubbels and Kruse each singled and drove in a run.
Nissen pitched an inning allowing 10 runs (seven earned) off of six hits while striking out one batter and walking four. Kruse suffered the loss allowing two hits.
The Dirt Devil 14 & Under softball team was also in action over the weekend competing in their Class C District Tournament in Blair.
Wayne suffered back-to-back losses to Logan View (8-3) and Highway 91 (13-6). The 14’s are now 6-12 on the season.
During the first game with Logan View, Kayla Fleming and Tori Ostrand each singled while Aliah Schulz added a double.
Amara Hurlbert suffered the loss walking four batters.
During the final game of the District Tourney, Chloe Klug singled twice while Schulz added a single and triple. Hurlbert also singled as Nikki Fertig tacked on a double.
Hurlbert worked three and two-thirds of an inning striking out one batter while walking another four. Fleming pitched a third of an inning striking out one and walking six.
The Dirt Devil 10’s will next visit the Ta-Ha-Zouka Kelly’s Yellow and Ta-Ha-Zouka Kelly’s Green in Norfolk on Thursday, June 15. Game times are scheduled for 6:30/8 p.m.
The Dirt Devil 14’s will next compete at home from the Summer Sports Complex on Thursday, June 15. Wayne will face Highway 91 at 6 pm. and Fremont Force Yellow at 9 p.m.
