Dirt Devil 12’s Crowned Champions During Yutan Tournament

YUTAN – With the 16/18’s competing in a State Tournament and the Dirt Devil 10’s and 14’s off for the weekend, the 12 & Under softball team took part in a two-day tournament.

The Dirt Devil 12’s competed in the Yutan Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the 12’s picked up shutout wins over Yutan (9-0), St. Patrick’s Angels (14-0) and Blair Flames (2-0). On Sunday, Wayne continued their defensive stand with wins over Plattsmouth Devil Pride (8-0) and Wahoo Calvary (4-0) before defeating the Blair Flames in the championship game (3-2). The Dirt Devil 12 & Under softball team was crowned champions of the Yutan Tournament and now sit 18-8 on the season.

From the win over Yutan, Liberty Titiml recorded a single and two RBI’s. Amara Hurlbert doubled.

Kendall Dorey picked up the complete game win in three innings striking out nine batters.

During the win over St. Patrick’s, Taytum Sweetland doubled and drove in a run while Brooklyn Kruse tripled. Hannah Gubbels added a single and two RBI’s as Logan Miller singled and drove in a run.

Hurlbert picked up the win in two innings striking out three batters and walking one as Brianna Nissen worked the final inning allowing a hit while striking out two batters.

In the first win over the Blair Flames, the Dirt Devils used four hits. Virginia Kniesche, Kruse, Hurlbert and Miller all singled. Nissen accounted for a RBI.

Dorey picked up the complete game win in five innings allowing two hits while striking out eight batters.

Moving into the first Sunday win over Plattsmouth, Sweetland and Kruse each singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Hurlbert picked up the complete game win in five innings allowing one hit while striking out five batters and walking one.

From the win over Wahoo, Dorey doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Hope O’Reilly and Kniesche each singled twice while Nissen singled and tacked on a RBI.

Dorey picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing two hits while striking out 13 batters and walking three.

The Dirt Devil 12’s were then crowned champions following a one-run win over the Blair Flames. Kruse singled twice while Hurlbert, Nissen and Dorey each singled. Sweetland and Titiml accounted for a RBI.

Dorey picked up the complete game win allowing her only runs of the tournament, being two off of three hits while striking out 10 batters and walking another two.

Dirt Devil 10’s will host Pender at 6/7:30 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex.

Dirt Devil 12’s will host Yankton at 6/7:30 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex.

Dirt Devil 14’s are off until Thursday, June 22 when they visit Tekamah-Herman Yellow and Purple at 6/7:30 p.m.

Dirt Devil 16/18’s will be off until Thursday, June 22 when they visit Tekamah-Herman at 6:30 p.m.
