Dirt Devil 16/18’s Hold Off Late Rally From Tekamah-Herman

WAYNE – Following a second-place finish in the Golden Girls Tournament this past weekend, the Dirt Devil 16/18 & Under softball team competed at home Monday evening.

From the Summer Sports Complex, Wayne hosted Tekamah-Herman for a single game.

The Dirt Devils jumped out front in the second inning to lead 1-0. Wayne then posted a three-run fifth inning to go up 4-0. Tekamah-Herman wouldn’t give up and scored two runs in the seventh, but fell 4-2. The Dirt Devil 16/18’s improve to 20-2-1 on the season.

Allison Claussen recorded a single, double and two RBI’s to pace Wayne at the plate. Grace Lindsay singled and drove in a run while Danica Schaefer, Ashten Gibson, Kiara Hochstein and Sidney Biggerstaff all singled.

Gibson picked up the complete game win in seven innings allowing two earned runs off of seven hits while striking out 14 batters.

The Dirt Devil 16/18’s are right back in action this evening for a home double header with Arlington. Game times from the Summer Sports Complex are 6:30/8 p.m.
