WISNER – The Wayne Dirt Devil 16/18 & Under softball team took to the road Thursday evening for a single game.
Wayne visited Wisner and scored one run in the first while adding three more in the second inning to lead 4-0. Wisner then brought in two runs each in the second and third innings to tie the contest. Wayne outscored Wisner 2-1 in the fourth and added one more run in the fifth to win 7-5. The Dirt Devil 16/18’s improve to 15-1-1.
Ashten Gibson paced the Dirt Devils at the plate with a pair of singles and three RBI’s. Allison Claussen recorded a triple with a RBI while Abby Ankeny homered. Danica Schaefer also singled twice.
The Dirt Devils used three pitchers to account for the win. Jamie Gamble pitched two and two-thirds allowing five runs (three earned) off of two hits while walking five batters. Cortney Bokemper worked an inning and a third allowing a run off of two hits while striking out one batter and walking two. Gibson pitched an inning striking out three batters in 15 pitches.

A correction from Thursday’s., June 8 sports and Sportsgram: Reporters error for Dirt Devil 12’s and 14’s having games. Those games were the week prior.
Two of the four ages groups will compete in their District Tournament this weekend. The 14’s will take part in the Class C District in Blair while the 10’s will be in West Point for their Class C District both on Friday, June 9 – Sunday, June 11.
The 12 & Under as well as the 18 & Under softball teams will compete in the Golden Girls Tournament at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk Friday, June 9 – Sunday, June 11.
