NORFOLK – It took the Lutheran High girls a quarter to get going against Battle Creek on Thursday. After that, they controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way.
LHNE was held to 7 points in the opening quarter, but outscored the Braves 16-6 in the second quarter to take a 23-16 lead at halftime.
The Lady Eagles were never able to pull away and seal the win early, but they were able to fight off the Braves in the end, 50-41, and notch their 7th win on the season.
Emma Rosberg, despite averaging 7 points per game this season, was one of three players for Lutheran High to score in double figures as she scored a team-high 16 points in the win for the Eagles. Freshman Chole Spence finished with 12 points while the other stud freshman, Becca Gebhardt, scored 6 of her 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Riley Seifert finished with 10 points for the Braves (3-10) in the loss.
The Lady Eagles (7-7) will have their hands full on Saturday when they take on Hartington CC (8-2).
The boys game featured a rematch from a few weeks back when LHNE and Battle Creek faced off in the third place game at the Shoot-out on the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament where the Eagles won in two overtimes.
This time around, it wasn’t even close.
Lutheran High shot 55% as a team from the field and 78% behind the arc to blow past Battle Creek in a 62-36 victory at home.
Blake Freudenburg was unstoppable on Thursday, leading the Eagles with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Ty Pape finished with 13 points and sophomore Ben Gebhardt added 11 points as the Eagles notched their 10th win on the year.
The Eagles (10-3) start their five game road trip on Tuesday when they take on Walthill (8-1) while Battle Creek (7-5) travel to take on Stanton.
