East, West Split During Northeast Nebraska All-Star Softball Games

WEST POINT – For the fourth consecutive year northeast Nebraska high school softball graduates were selected for a pair of all-star games taking place over the summer.

The All-Star double header games were held this past Saturday from Timmerman Park in West Point with an attendance around 250.

In the opening contest, the East defeated the West by the score of 5-1.

Offensively for the East was led by Lauren Wobken (GACC) recording a pair of RBI as Hannah Thompson (Arlington) added a double. Hannah Hunke (GACC), Carson Cameron (Tekamah-Herman) and Vanessa McCain (Wisner-Pilger) each went 1-for-2.

Mariah Hunke of GACC picked up the win in three innings in the circle allowing two hits while striking out four batters. Jessica Fleischman (Tekamah-Herman) worked the final three innings allowing three hits while striking out six batters.

For the West, Alayna Allen (Columbus), Caleigh Miles (O’Neill), Shyanne Sutton (Twin River), Riley Boyd (Boone Central) and Mackenzie Magsamen (Madison) each went 1-for-1.

Taking the loss for the West was Hannah Belt of Wayne who started the opening four innings allowing eight hits while striking out five batters. Alayna Allen (Columbus) worked the final two innings allowing one hit while striking out six batters.

From the second game the West got their revenge in a 4-1 win over the East. In the past four years, both teams have now won four games each.

Leading the West All-Stars at the plate was Caleigh Miles (O’Neill) going 3-for-4 as Hannah Matthies (Norfolk) went 2-for-2 and Ashton Gibson (Wayne) went 1-for-1.

Tera Pacsoza of Twin River picked up the win in four innings of work allowing one hit while striking out seven batters. Ashton Gibson (Wayne) pitched the final two innings allowing two hits.

The East All-Stars were led offensively by Hannah Thompson (Arlington) going 1-for-2.

Alycin Braun (Columbus) suffered the loss in three innings allowing three hits while striking out one batter. Mariah Hunke (GACC) worked the next two innings allowing five hits while Jessica Fleischman (Tekamah-Herman) pitched the final inning allowing two hits.

Most Valuable Players were awarded for each All-Star team. For the East, Lauren Wobken – offensive (GACC) and Kassidy Kellogg – defensive (Tekamah-Herman). For the West, Caleigh Miles – offensive (O’Neill) and Alayna Allen – defensive (Columbus).
