First Place Trophies Were Up For Grab During B-2 Boys District Golf Meet

WAYNE – Several Class B high school boys golf teams visited the Wayne Country Club Tuesday.

Wayne High was the host for the B-2 District Golf Invite where the overall team won by five strokes and an individual shot just two strokes better to claim first.

Columbus Lakeview was crowned District champions shooting a 340, edging O’Neill for second with a 345 while Mount Michael Benedictine shot a 354 to finish third and all three schools will be state bound.

Columbus Scotus (fourth – 368), Blair (T-fifth – 390), Bennington (T-fifth – 390), Schuyler (seventh – 401), West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder (eighth – 408), Boone Central/Newman Grove (ninth – 421), Wayne High (10th – 428), Omaha Roncalli Catholic (11th – 487) and Fort Calhoun (12th – 557).

Three of the top five athletes will compete individually at state.

Senior Brandt Radloff (Blair) won the District shooting a 75, followed by sophomore Teague Stewart (WPB/SS) with a 77 in second and sophomore Bryce VunCannon (Scotus) took fifth with an 82.

Senior Josh Cuddy (O’Neill) placed third with an 80 as senior Colten Remm (Lakeview) finished fourth with an 81.

Wayne High concluded their season as sophomore Jonah Brodersen led the Blue Devils with a 98. Freshman Shea Sweetland and sophomore Payton DeWald each shot a 106, junior Austin Fernau shot a 118 and senior Garret Reynolds shot a 132.

The 2017 Class B Boys State Golf Championships will be held Tuesday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 24 at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln.
