GOTHENBURG – Beemer’s Lacie Fox defeated Hannah Hunke of Snyder, 2 and 1, to win the 55th Nebraska Girls’ Match Play Championship at Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg on Thursday.
The two golfers are certainly familiar with one another. Fox attended West Point-Beemer high school, while Hunke was a student of neighboring Guardian Angels Central Catholic.
The two are members of the same golf club as well, Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer.
The boys’ championship is scheduled for Friday. Norfolk’s Kellen Rossman and North Platte’s Kort Steele will play in the final after winning both of their matches on Thursday. Rossman defeated 1-seed and Plainview resident Tucker Knaak, while Steele eliminated the two-seed, Cade McCallum of Grand Island.
