Gibson Sits Down 16 Batters, Dirt Devil Softball Defeats Arlington

WAYNE – The Dirt Devil 18 & Under softball team was able to play one of their two scheduled games Tuesday evening prior to the storm coming in.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil 16/18’s played host to Arlington.

Wayne used single runs in each of the second and third innings to lead 2-0. The Dirt Devils then scored four runs in the fifth to win 6-0. Wayne is now 21-2-1 on the season.

Ashten Gibson recorded a single, double and two RBI’s to pace Wayne at the plate while Danica Schaefer added a single, double and one RBI. Jenna Trenhaile and Jamie Gamble each tacked on two singles and drove in a run.

Gibson picked up the complete game, no-hitter/shutout, win in six innings striking out 16 batters while walking one.

The Dirt Devil 16/18’s will next compete in the Class B State Tournament played at Hastings. Games will be held Friday, June 16 – Sunday, June 18.
