WAYNE – For the second time in the month of October, Hartington Cedar Catholic and Ponca battled on the court this time during the Class C2-3 Subdistrict Volleyball Tournament.
From Wayne High School, #1 Cedar Catholic and the second ranked Indians took part in the C2-3 Championship match Tuesday evening.
The Trojans swept Ponca for the second time in the month of October (25-11, 25-17, 25-16). HCC is now 31-0 while Ponca drops to 28-5 on the season. Last year Hartington Cedar Catholic suffered a three-set defeat to Crofton in the Subdistrict round before getting a wildcard and defeating Ponca in straight sets in the sub-state round.
Anna Reifenrath paced Cedar Catholic at the net with nine kills and 18 set assists, Jada Cattau posted eight kills and nine digs and Maddie Wieseler followed with eight kills and 10 set assists. Madie Arens tallied 11 digs.
Hartington Cedar Catholic will be in search of their second state berth in back-to-back years since they qualified for state between 2010 – 2012. HCC was last crowned champions in Class C2 in 2012 while the team went 0-1 last year with an opening round defeat to #1 Diller-Odell, who eventually took second to Stanton.
Just like in Class C1, all 12 Subdistrict Champions along with four wildcards among the top 16 Class C1 teams will be re-seeded 1-16 for a winner-take all sub-state round on Saturday, November 4. Game time and location will be determined by both schools.
