Hartington-Newcastle, Cedar Catholic Volleyball Teams Compete In Road Matches

WALTHILL/ALBION – Both high school volleyball teams from Hartington were on the road Thursday evening.

From Walthill, the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats took part in a triangular along with Ponca.

In the opening match with Walthill, HNS won in two sets (25-14, 25-15), but against Ponca it took extra points in a two-set loss (25-23, 27-25). With the split, Hartington-Newcastle is now 17-3 on the season and will next compete in an Invite hosted by the Wildcats on Saturday, October 14.

From the sweep over Walthill, Kayden Jueden paced the Wildcats with seven kills and 10 digs while Belle Harms added five kills with three service aces. Liby Lange was the team leader in set assists with 17.

During the two-set defeat to Ponca, Jueden and Harms each tallied seven kills as Abbe Morten followed with another six. Lange totaled 22 set assists as Jueden recorded a team-high 13 digs. Autumn Lammers added 11 digs.

Moving to Albion, the #1 Class C2 Hartington Cedar Catholic Trojans visited Boone Central/Newman Grove.

Cedar Catholic continued their undefeated season with their 24th match win in a sweep over the Cardinals (25-14, 25-12, 25-15). HCC is now 24-0 on the season and will next compete in a road triangular Tuesday, October 17 in O’Neill.

Jada Cattau led HCC in the three-set win with 11 kills, followed by Maddie Wieseler with eight kills and 13 set assists while Anna Reifenrath added six kills. Ashely Hamilton recorded a double-double with 15 set assists and 10 digs as Madie Arens paced the team in digs with 12 and Sydney Steffen tacked on another 10.
