Lady Bears To Open 2017-18 Season Thursday, Look To Get Up And Down The Court

LAUREL – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls basketball team doubled their overall win record from three games in 2015-16 season to six games last year and will look to take that next step this year.

The Lady Bears have 11 practices total leading up to their first competition and also had a jamboree earlier in the practice schedule.

Nate Sims enters his 14th year as head coach for the LCC girls basketball program. Of the 17 players on the team, one is in a wrist brace while another is on crutches but hope to get one or both back soon. Coach Sims said the team wants to get up and run during their full-court sets.

“Not only the way the game is played, but for conditioning as well,” said Sims. “There’s time where we need to slow it down, but there’s times that we need to make as much as we can full court and play that way.”

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls basketball team is coming off a 6-15 record from a year ago. The Lady Bears dropped five of their 15 games in a row between late December and early January.

Senior guard Bryn Schutte and junior point guard/wing/forward Lorna Maxon are two of the upperclassmen.

Schutte talked about what the team is working on leading into two games in two nights while Maxon mentioned what it’s like playing in the Lewis & Clark Conference.

“Staying in shape, not getting too tired and go out and play hard,” Schutte added. “We’ve been working hard in practice, so hopefully it pays off.”

“Everybody is super competitive, and most people just love to play,” Maxon mentioned. “It’s fun to play and it’s a good time.”

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will open their season at Siouxland Community Christian, Iowa on Thursday, November 30 while hosting Crofton on Friday, December 1.
