NORTH PLATTE – The Norfolk girls are bringing home some hardware after a trip out west.
The Lady Panthers are the 2017 Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference champs after a 2-1 shootout victory over No. 7 Hastings on Saturday.
Norfolk found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime after Hastings freshman Dulce Lopez converted on a PK early in the first half. With less than 10 minutes to play and still down one time was winding down for the Lady Panthers, but Anden Baumann found Mariah Wilson who equalized for the Norfolk and forced the eventual shootout.
Norfolk would down Hastings 5-4 in PK’s to claim the GNAC title and hand the Lady Tigers their first loss of the season.
The Lady Panthers defeated Scottsbluff 5-0 and North Platte 1-0 in a shootout to advance to the final.
Norfolk looks to keep the momentum going when they host No. 10 Lincoln Southeast (6-2) on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live on NCN channel 35.1 and streamed online at NCNSportsNow.com. Live coverage will begin at approximately 4:45 PM.
