Late Inning Rally Allows Wayne Softball To Take Down Ranked Class C Opponent

TEKAMAH – It was a pitchers dual early on, when Class B Wayne High visited Class C #5 Tekamah-Herman Thursday night.

From Carson Field in Tekamah, the Tigers played host to the Blue Devils.

Senior Ashley Bohannon for the Tigers and sophomore Tori Kniesche were matching each other left and right through the first five innings in the circle.

Then, in the top of the sixth, it was the first pitch of the at bat for senior Kennedy Maly crushing a solo homer over the centerfield fence. Wayne High followed the sixth with a five-run seventh to score late and win 6-0. The Blue Devils have now won four straight games to improve to 11-2 overall as Tekamah-Herman has dropped two of their last three games to sit 11-3 overall.

Maly ended as the offensive team leader with the solo homer she added a two-RBI double and scored two runs. Tori Kniesche added three singles and had a two-RBI performance while junior Annie Kniesche tacked on two singles. Junior Maysn Dorey singled and doubled during her two hits.

Tori Kniesche posted another complete game shutout, no-hitter win in seven innings. She struck out 12 batters and walked another four in 107 pitches.

#5 Tekamah-Herman will next visit a pair of top Class C teams in Raymond. The Tigers will battle #1 Malcom and #3 Raymond Central on Saturday, September 9.

Wayne High will compete in the Mercy High School Varsity Softball Invite on Saturday. WHS earned the #2 seed and will face #7 Mercy at 9 a.m. Other morning opening round games feature #1 Bishop Neumann vs. #8 South Sioux City; #4 Plattsmouth vs. #5 Platteview and #3 David City/East Butler vs. #6 North Bend Central.
