Lutheran High Northeast Uses First Half Lead To Hold Off Randolph

LINCOLN – The Class D1 consolation game from the 2017 NSAA State Basketball Championships took place Saturday afternoon from Lincoln East High School.

#3 Lutheran High Northeast matched up with #5 Randolph and took an early 17-4 lead in the first. In the second, Randolph would win the battle with an 11-10 quarter, but trailed at half 27-15. From the third, Randolph got as close as six points. But, the Eagles pushed their lead further with a 14-12 quarter. Randolph won the fourth, 15-11, but LHNE held on for the 52-42 win. The Eagles were crowned third place champions and finished the year 21-5 as the Cardinals fell back to 18-8.

Senior Caleb Gebhardt led Lutheran High Northeast in scoring with 17 points, connecting on 4 of 5 from the foul line. Junior Matthew Becker came off the bench to score 13 points. As a team, LHNE went 11-23 in the fourth quarter from the foul line for all of their points. They finished the game 15-30 at the charity stripe.

Senior Logan Nordhues was the team leader for Randolph with 19 points, converting 6 of 12 at the foul line. Senior Andrew Schnoor and sophomore Merrix Denn each scored eight points. Randolph finished 8-18 from the foul line.
