New Quarterback, Same Explosive Offense for Lincoln Lutheran

NORFOLK – Coach Greg Nelson said, after learning that starting quarterback and all-state candidate Zach Clausen would be missing extended time with a broken foot, that he felt Lincoln Lutheran’s offense would be just fine in the hands of Cole Schaedel.

His confidence appears to have been well-founded.

Stepping in for his first start at QB, Schaedel completed 15 of 31 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns, while also gaining another 73 yards on the ground and adding three more scores, as Lincoln Lutheran handed Lutheran High Northeast their first loss of the year Friday, 56-40.

Schaedel’s offensive line allowed him to get into a rhythm early, and he quickly locked on to a favorite receiver, Logan Kreizel, who caught eight of Schaedel’s passes for 166 yards and a touchdown.

Schaedel proved unflappable, bouncing back from an interception thrown on the opening drive to lead the Warriors to a 38-yard touchdown strike on their very next drive.

Lincoln Lutheran’s defensive effort won’t be reflected in the stat-sheet, but the Warriors limited a normally high-powered Lutheran High Northeast offense to just 97 first half yards. The Eagles were able to rack up yards in the second half as they tried to rally, with quarterback Jackson Kant completing 17 of 28 passes for three touchdowns, and the Eagles also got an 87-yard kickoff return from Korrell Koehlmoos, but three turnovers and an inability to get Lincoln Lutheran’s offense off the field proved to be too much to overcome.
