GIRLS: NORFOLK (9-9) 52, #6 MILLARD WEST (11-7) 41
Sometimes it can be as simple as hitting shots. The Norfolk Lady Panthers had one of their best shooting efforts of the season, as they upset #6 Millard West at home on Saturday. The game stayed close throughout, and a late Millard West flurry had the game tied at 32 heading into the 4th quarter. But the Panthers opened the 4th quarter on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Senior Jenna Jochum found her shot early, drilling three 3-pointers and finishing with 17 points. Leah Buss added 14 points, and Kyla Moore contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. As a team, the Panthers set new season highs, shooting 53% from the field and hitting six 3-pointers. Chaise Pfanstiel led Millard West with 15 points, while Logan Black finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
BOYS: #3 NORFOLK (16-2) 60, #8 MILLARD WEST (11-9) 55
In a game in which neither team led by more than five, Norfolk took advantage of some Millard West mishaps late to pick up their 12th straight win. After a free throw miss with Norfolk up three late, Millard West’s Colby Gomes pulled down a rebound only to have it immediately stolen by Lane McCallum. McCallum also cleared a Millard West defender later to pull down a key offensive rebound in the final minute. Logan Strom found his shot from the outside, hitting three 3-pointers en route to 20 points and nine rebounds. Christian Eisenhauer finished with 12 points for the Panthers. Simon Hay led the Wildcats with 12 points and six rebounds, while Shae Wyatt, who was limited by foul trouble in the first half, had 11 points for Millard West, who have lost four in a row.
