NSIC Baseball Tournament Spot On The Line For Wildcats Over Next 16 Games

WAYNE – With just over two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Wayne State College baseball team is looking to make a late push and secure a spot in the conference tournament.

Only the top eight teams will move on for the 2017 NSIC Baseball Tournament slated May 10-14 at the MAC in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Wayne State College has won seven of their last nine outings and currently sit sixth in the league with a 13-11 NSIC record and 18-18 overall.

The Wildcats will host the 10-14 (14-18 NSIC) Upper Iowa University Peacocks Thursday afternoon at 1:30/3:30 p.m. UIU sits 11th in the NSIC.

Remaining games and league rankings for the Wildcats baseball team include four games with Northern State (13th), two games with Concordia-St. Paul (sixth), four games with Augustana (second) and four games with Sioux Falls (10th).

WSC failed to qualify for the conference tournament last season, but in 2015 the ‘Cats were swept the opening day by Minnesota Duluth (2-0) and Northern State (6-5). The last NSIC Tourney wins came in 2014 when WSC defeated Winona State (5-4, 10 innings) and Minnesota State-Mankato (2-1).
