PIERCE – Don’t consider it luck; the Bluejays are for real.
#15 Pierce went on the road in the first round to take on #2 Fairbury a week ago Friday and beat the Jeff’s 36-32 to shake up the Class C-1 playoff bracket.
The Bluejays hosted #7 West Point-Beemer on Friday and came out swinging.
On the opening drive, Pierce took it right to the Cadets and punched it in for a 3-yard Collin Tinker touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead.
Tinker and Pierce weren’t done.
Tinker scored all three of Pierce’s touchdowns in the first quarter to give the Bluejays a 21-0 lead.
Half of the second quarter belonged to West Point-Beemer as the Cadets stormed back to score 14 unanswered to make it a touchdown game.
After getting good field position after the ensuing kick-off, Pierce only needed one play to
Sophomore sensation, quarterback Dalton Freeman, called his own number and took it 63-yards for a touchdown to put the Bluejays back up 28-14.
Freeman would come up big again with a touchdown pass to senior Cody Yawn to give Pierce a 35-14 lead at the half.
The Bluejays would take control the rest of the way as the Bluejays defeat the Cadets 54-34 in a ‘revenge game’ on Friday to advance to the semifinals.
Pierce lost to West Point-Beemer on October 13, 35-38, in overtime.
The Bluejays will get another chance at revenge in the semifinals as they will take on Boone Central/Newman Grove in Albion for a chance to play in Lincoln for the Class C-1 state title.
