OMAHA – From the 65 Class D teams who opened the first day of the 2017 NSAA State Wrestling Championships, a handful are from northeast Nebraska.
Wrestling began for Classes A and D at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Century Link Center in Omaha.
Amherst is the current leader of the pack after day one with 67 points, followed in second by Burwell with 58 points and Plainview in third (40).
Other northeast Nebraska teams include: Creighton (seventh – 25), St. Mary’s (19th – 15), Randolph (T-29th – nine), Pender (32nd – eight), Guardian Angels Central Catholic (T-36th – four), Winside (T-45th – two) and Osmond has recorded no score.
Class D area results from first round and quarter-final round action listed below:
Classes D and A will pick second day action back up with first and second round consolation at 9:30 a.m. Friday and join all classes for semi-finals and third round consolations at 5 p.m. Friday.
Up next will be the second session of the opening day where Classes B and C will get their shot during first round and quarter-final action at 4 p.m.
There will be six area Class C teams with 25 wrestlers and two area Class B teams with nine wrestlers KTCH/KCTY will be reporting on the radio.
