Ponca Uses 20-0 Run to Get 21st Straight Win

PONCA – For a team that won last year’s Class C2 state championship, the Ponca Indians appear to be not taking anything for granted.

Ponca came out with fire on Tuesday, avoiding a letdown after their big win over Winnebago last week to rout Crofton 65-20.

The Indians opened a 36-6 lead in the first half. After Crofton trimmed the lead to 24 at the break, Ponca scored the first 20 points of the second half to institute the running clock rule.

Ponca shared the ball well, with three players finishing in double figures and only ten turnovers being committed, as opposed to 25 turnovers for Crofton.

The win is Ponca’s 21st in a row dating back to last year. Crofton, meanwhile, has now lost 13 straight.
