WAYNE – The Wayne Post 43 Senior American Legion baseball team began pool play Saturday from Hank Overin Field in Wayne.
During the 2017 Max Greve Wood Bat Tournament, the Post 43 Seniors competed with Beresford and Bruning-Davenport-Schickley.
From the first contest, Beresford (South Dakota) led early with a two-run first inning. Beresford added three runs each in the third and fourth innings to hold off Wayne 8-0.
Mason Lee, Tyler Lutt, Tucker Nichols and Ben Klein each accounted for a single.
Nichols suffered the loss in three innings allowing five runs (four earned) off of six hits while striking out two and walking two batters. Caden Korth pitched an inning and a third allowing three runs off of two hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Payten Gamble worked the final two-thirds striking out one batter.

During the second game, Wayne Post 43 scored a run in the third inning to lead early. BDS then brought in five runs in the fifth and another run in the seventh to win 6-1. With the two losses, Wayne Post 43 is now 6-3 on the season.
Tucker Nichols recorded a triple and single to pace Wayne at the plate. Justin Dean doubled while Lutt and Klein each singled.
Lutt suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing five runs (four earned) off of seven hits while striking out two batters and walking three. Adam Bentjen pitched the final two and a third allowing an earned run off of three hits while striking out three batters
